The beast measuring 33-ft and weighing 400kg was found by construction workers following an explosion in a cave in Altamira, Pará.  A video filmed by one of the workers shows the sheer size of the enormous reptile. Thousands of people,
among them civil
servants and vendors,
have lost thousands of
dollars to fraudulent
online pyramid scheme
MMM Global Zimbabwe
after it collapsed
recently. The social
financial network, which
relied on an
accelerating number of
new members to pay off
the old, abruptly
terminated its services
last week leaving
participants stranded.
This comes as Econet’s
mobile financial service
platform, EcoCash yesterday
distanced itself from the
pyramid scheme. Participants
claimed they were using
EcoCash for their
transactions.
Zimbabweans have in the
past months been joining the
online investment scheme in
droves in a bid “to get rich
quickly”. The Reserve Bank
of Zimbabwe warned people
that the scheme was
fraudulent and there was no
legal recourse in the event
they lost their money.
The central bank said MMM,
which advertises its
operations through a website
and recruiting agents, was
not a registered or regulated
entity. EcoCash yesterday
said: “We have noted that
some of these pyramid
schemes are allegedly
advertising in a manner that
suggests that the Ecocash
facility is a medium for
prospective members to
deposit their money. This is
not correct.“We advise our valued
customers and all
stakeholders that Ecocash is
a licensed mobile payment
platform that enables
customers to make financial
transactions such as sending
money, buying prepaid
airtime as well as paying for
goods and services within
the confines of the law of
Zimbabwe. EcoCash promotes
safe and legal transactions
but will not be held liable for
any losses arising from the
use of EcoCash to engage in
illegal activities such as
Ponzi schemes.”
The scheme advertises itself
as a mutual aid fund under
which recruited members
contribute money to assist
others and are promised
investment returns of 30
percent per month. Some of
the people left counting their
losses told The Herald that
they received emails that the
scheme had been suspended
until September 15.
“All along things were
moving in the right direction
and we now have nowhere to
claim our investments,” said
Mr Tinashe Muza of Harare.
“When we started putting
our funds in the scheme one
could get assistance within
seven days but things later
changed to 14 days and
when we were shut out the
waiting period was 21 days.
What it simply means is that
the number of people in need
of help has outnumbered the
number of people joining.
Right now we have nowhere
to get our money which we
invested.”
MMM stands for Mavrodi
Mondial Moneybox and takes
its name from its founder,
Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi
of Russia. He founded MMM in
1989 and the scheme was
declared bankrupt three
years later leading to the
disappearance of Mavrodi
until his arrest in 2003.
Another victim, Mrs
Rosemary Mawonde said:
“We never thought the
scheme would end this way
as we believed that by using
EcoCash to do the
transactions, things were in
order. I am surprised that
EcoCash is also distancing
itself from the scheme and it
is clear that I will never
recover the $300 that I
invested.”
While some people who were
skeptical about the scheme
started with small amounts, it
is believed some poured in
thousands of dollars
anticipating higher returns.
The RBZ said the schemes
were fraudulent as existing
investors were ‘paid money
not from genuine market
investment of their funds,
but from contributions made
by new investors, until a
point when the scheme can
no longer attract new
investors,”
“The participants are made
aware that they make their
money by recruiting new
members who in turn must
recruit more members,”
warned the Central Bank.

Police Kill 4 Robbers In Warri,Delta State (GRAPHIC CONTENT)

Atleast four armed robbery suspects were on Monday afternoon, gunned down during a shootout with operatives of the Nigerian Police at the Okere-Ajamimogha axis in Warri.

It was gathered that the suspected armed bandits who purportedly robbed a church at Cemetery road earlier yesterday , were driving towards Okere-Ajamimogha road when a team of mobile policemen sighted and follow them.

An eyewitness said the Volkswagen saloon car used by the robbers hit a streetlight pole at Ajamimogha road while trying to escape.

The source revealed that shop owners and commuters scampered for safety while the gun battle lasted.

Area Commander, Warri Area Command, ACP Mohammed Muazu, who confirmed the incident, said some arms and ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums.

Speaking with the police image-maker, Delta Police Command, SP Celestina Kalu on the incident, she said two locally made double barrel cut-to-size and six live cartridges were recovered from the hoodlums.

Senate to Abuja residents: Slaughter any straying cow found in Abuja City

Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Dino Melaye, yesterday asked residents of the FCT to, henceforth, slaughter straying cows found in the city. He said this when the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello, appeared before the committee ‎yesterday September 26th.

Melaye who gave the order in a speech read at the session, said it was very disappointing, annoying and embarrassing that inspire of the ban placed on cattle grazing in FCT by FCTA authority, some stubborn herdsmen still go about the city grazing their cows. He ordered the FCT Minister to go beyond the ban by facilitating the slaughtering order issued by the senate committee.

"The Senate is not happy at how herdsmen continue to move their cows across the city centre, which we are aware you had given directive against some time ago. From now on, get knives and ask your men to slaughter cows found in the capital city or prosecute herdsmen seen with cows in the city centre with a fine of N50,000 per cow. This order must be carried out.”

A seven-man panel of the court said reasons for upholding the election would be provided on September 30.

'Police in Bong mines Lower Bong county are currently investigating a five month pregnant woman believed to be in her late 20's for allegedly killing her baby. She reportedly caused the death of her three years old baby after she throw her in an old well causing her to drown'.

'Delta wizard' crashlands in Benin church premises (pics+vid).

They were thrown into confusion when in the morning they opened the church premises which has a very tall gate, fortified with razor sharp barbed wires, and discovered a stark naked man roaming to and fro the compound.

The workers insist the premises was locked the previous day. Upon interrogation, the naked young man confessed he is a wizard from Delta state.

According to him, he was on an unknown assignment from Delta state when his 'spiritual google map' went haywire.

He found his course diverted, and when he got to Ring Road, Benin, he hovered around the area before crash landing, butt naked, in the church premises. He ends by professing a willingness to surrender to God since he has been 'arrested'.

Harnaam Kaur of Slough, UK stands as one of the most inspiring record-holders to grace the pages of the new Guinness World Records 2017 annual, holding the title of youngest female with a full beard.

The anti-bullying and body image activist has a fascinating story to tell as she overcame years of bullying to take ownership of her appearance and get awarded this record title at the age of 24 years 282 days.Born on 29 November 1990, Harnaam first started to notice that she was growing facial hair at the age of 11.

She was eventually diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, a condition that means she has much more testosterone than most women which is what causes hair to grow on her face.

Harnaam used to remove all her hair, but says that once she decided to let it grow and accept her body the way it is, she felt empowered. Her beard now measures six inches long in some places.

In her application for the record title, the body positivity campaigner told Guinness World Records: “I didn't realise how much my life's journey of being a self-loather to a self-lover would inspire men and women in many different countries.

Rev. Chris Oyakhilome has blasted Nigerian media for saying some 'stupid' things about him. He said most of those things said about him are lies. He denied them. He said:

"I understand that some media houses particularly in Nigeria, and may be in South Africa have been writing some real stupid things with frivolous charges. That's crazy. I wasn't accused of those things you said, nor did I commit those stupid things that you said..."

A while ago, A man named  Zaradn Espee wrote about Musa Halidu A.K.A 'Mai Ice Cream' a man who has been selling ice cream for over three decades in Kaduna State.

He wanted to reward the vendor for not only all the free ice cream he gave him and other kids 30 years ago but to also make life easier for him. He called on well meaning Nigerians to contribute towards the cause. Not only did the post get many retweets, shares and reposts, many people made donation.

On Saturday, September 10th, he drove down to Kaduna and handed over the N110 realized from Nigerians who were touched by the post. Below is his account of the emotional moment:

"WE MADE A MAN CRY...What was supposed to be an ice cream delivery turned out to be a big surprise for Musa Halidu A.K.A Mai ice cream as this group of people gathered and presented him with a total contribution of N110k, out of which 40k was given to him in cash and the balance of 70k to be deposited in an account he will open after sallah. And that's not all because my Og Bello Aliyua gave him new pairs of clothing for the festivity.  To our surprise, he remembered the schools we went to in kaduna and also revealed that the free ice cream and Lolly we had was paid for from his pocket. 

We listened to his challenges and encouraged him to make good use of his funds as it was time to retire from a trade of over 3 decades with very little to show for it. He couldn't help but get all emotional because it was a big deal to him considering he makes about 1k a day on that bicycle and he has a family to cater for.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, the militants perpetuated series of crimes, including attack on market women and other traders, siphoning of crude oil and destruction of pipelines.

"As part of efforts to eliminate unwholesome activities perpetuated by criminals in the Niger Delta, the Nigerian Navy has arrested one of the top leaders of a group which goes by the name Bakassi Strike Force (BSF)

"The suspected Militant Mr Uduak Etim Thompson aka SANGATA was arrested on 12 September 2016 at his hideout in Calabar by a joint team from Nigerian Navy Ship VICTORY and Defence Intelligence Agency”. It would be recalled that some top members of the BSF had earlier been arrested. "These arrests bring to fore the commitment of the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies to stamp out the menace of criminal brigandage in the region.

"Investigation into these untoward activities have commenced and the perpetrators will be handed over to prosecuting agencies for further action."
